a home away from home

I went, on a whim, to Singapore and JB. Yes, I was quite that free and quite that insane. Once I felt like going, I went. No doubts, no questions asked… its been a long time since I was that impulsive.

Took the Sri Maju bus from Puduraya. Another first for me… coz I always took the “Nice” bus, that goes through the second link (5 hours max travelling time). This darn blasted Sri Maju took 7-8 hours to reach Beach Rd, crawling its way through the horrendous traffic on the main JB-SG causeway. I never quite expected it to jam up for so long! Thank gawd I don’t have to commute from JB to SG and back everyday, coz i’ll go stir crazy doing it…

Anyway, I spent my days strolling Orchard Rd and drinking coffee at this quaint little cafe – TCC. Very nice and cozy place, great deco, good smooth coffee (with liberal doses of liquor) and just enjoying the hustle and bustle of life in Singapore.

It was also time for the Singapore Arts Festival… so there were quite a huge number of art stuff to see, with stores selling t-shirts etc. I was also fortunate enuf to catch one of the comedy plays by a Canadian troop at Raffles City. Another attraction was two artists who are “short of money”, so they dressed up as hippies and posed on the subways, waiting donations from passer-bys.

Frankly, this trip was one of the most rewarding ones I’ve taken in ages - i got an Ipod Shuffle at a cheap price, got to eat all the siew loong pao that my heart desires, bought shoes, bought my dearest some presents, took in the art shows, had an adventure on the MRT, and finally a relaxing time with my dearest to celebrate his birthday in JB…

I’ll be off to Melbourne come July 3rd and it’ll be trials and tribulations from then on… hopefully it will be a smooth transition for me and i do hope i won’t miss hokkein mee, curry mee, nasi lemak… oh its too painful to remember all my fav m’sian food. *sigh*
