Shogun Japanese Buffet @ JB

This restaurant specialises in Japanese Buffet and is supposed to be pretty famous in JB. First off, I told myself NOT to compare it to anything we have in KL (mainly jogoya and tenji) and just enjoy.

The buffet spread was done in a kind of ala-carte way. Not a lot of food was on display, only pictures of food… We were given mini paper clips in a small basket – 20 for the two of us. You walk about picking up cards with names of the food you’d like to eat, and attach the clip to it [ 1 clip = 1 serving]. Then you drop the selected cards into a “order tray” and you go back to ur table and wait……….

Maybe it’s just me, but I love to see loads of food around and enjoy the instant gratification of loading my plate to the brim and proceeding to devour the lot! Yes, I was hungry that day, it was 9 pm on a Friday and I had just made my way across the river from sg >.<  On the other hand, doing this guarantees hot, fresh food with little wastage, so I’m receptive to this new form of buffet.

Highlight of our meal was this incredibly flavourful pork sukiyaki. I’ll come again just to eat this!

Their tempura prawns were good too. So were their teppanyaki. The mutton teppanyaki was actually 1 huge slice of lambchop – a bit on the tough side but nonetheless tasty. Pork teppanyaki + garlic rice = satisfaction :D   Their fried udon noodles were yummy too and their cheesy dory fish was alright but the baked cheese scallop had more cheese than anything else – how i long for rakuzen’s hotate T.T

There are a lot more other choices – yakitori, japanese pizzas, a range of sushi and sashimi, salad, fruits, ramen etc. Oh, and ice cream… now that’s something they do well too! Their green tea ice cream was fab, and I also tried their coffee + choc chip – wonderfully creamy!

Price wise, it was reasonable. We both ate for RM99.80 and we were quite satisfied.

Trivia: A “shogun” is a military rank /historical title of Japan equivalent to the modern day rank of “general”.
