Steamed Egg Recipe

I need to confess… I’m totally addicted to steamed eggs! From sweet custards to cawanmushi, I just can’t get enough of them.

I’m sharing with you 2 more ways to steam eggs and I hope you’ll like it.

Recipe 1: Steamed eggs with minced pork

  • 200g minced pork
  • 3 eggs
  • 200ml warm water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 shallots – thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp soy sauce

Seasoning

  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame seed oil
  • pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn flour

Method

  1. Mix minced pork with seasoning and let marinade for about an hour
  2. Fry shallots in 2 tbsp of oil until golden brown. Add in 1 tsp of soy sauce.
  3. Mix together eggs with minced pork. Add in warm water.
  4. Pour mixture into a flat shallow dish
  5. Make sure that the water is boiling hot before placing the dish in the steamer.
  6. Steam on low heat for approx 20 mins. Check readiness by poking a toothpick through the center. If it comes up clear then it’s done.
  7. Before serving pour shallot oil and soy sauce mixture over top of eggs.

You can do without the pork and just steam the eggs as they are – but make sure that the ratio of eggs to water is 1 egg:100ml water.

Sometimes when you have a can of chicken / mushroom soup and you really don’t just want to have canned soup for dinner, you can try to steam eggs with it. My sister shared this recipe with me and I love how the canned soup gives a slightly different texture to the eggs.

Recipe 2: Simple Steamed Eggs with Canned Chicken & Mushroom Soup

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can chicken & mushroom soup
  • dash of pepper

Method

  1. Mix canned soup with enough water to make up to 300ml
  2. Add in eggs and pepper, stir well.
  3. Pour into a flat shallow dish. Steam on low heat for 10-15 mins.
  4. Make sure that the water is boiling hot before placing the dish in the steamer.
  5. Check readiness by poking a toothpick through the center. If it comes up clear then it’s done.

You can do this with any type of canned soup, and it’s really simple to make. Minimal washing up too! Best for days when you’re so tired you don’t want to lift a finger, but u still need to cook… LOL
