First, rely on the spirit and meaning of the teachings, not on the words;
Second, rely on the teachings, not on the personality of the teacher;
Third, rely on real wisdom, not superficial interpretation;
And fourth, rely on the essence of your pure Wisdom Mind, not on judgmental perceptions.

~Buddhist quote taken from this site

A great deal of deviated teachings nowadays result from us blindly following a “leader” who professes to know ‘more than thou’ about a particular religion. Peer pressure too can force us to conform to a certain way which rebels against what one thinks is right and true. Stop being a sheep! Just trust in yourself, and your feelings of good and evil and you will not be lead astray.

When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad. That’s my religion.

~ Abraham Lincoln
